Die Paradise Garage, mit seinem Resident-DJ Larry Levan, wurde 1987 geschlossen.
[Auszug Liner Notes:] Der Cooltempo Sampler „This Is Garage“ schafft es, die ehrwürdigen alten Tage zu ergänzen und gleichzeitig einen unverwechselbaren und innovativen Einblick in die Zukunft zu bieten. Cooltempo hat die aufblühenden Talente einiger der aufregendsten Künstler und vielversprechendsten Produzenten der Garagenmusikszene von heute versammelt, von denen die meisten aus New Jersey stammen. Das Vermächtnis der „Paradise Garage“ wurde von New Jerseys eigenem „Club Zanzibar“ in Newark weitergeführt, wo Tony Humphries‘ „intensive Plattenspieler-Action“ Trost für diejenigen bietet, die den alten Garagentagen nachtrauern. Club Zanzibar und Humphries sind zu der wichtigsten Plattform geworden, um die Talente der Region zu präsentieren und zu fördern.

Welcome to ‚This is Garage‘ a stellar compilation of only the rawest R&B and deepest club jams. Cooltempo has gathered searing beats-n-rhythms guaranteed to keep your body working all night long and then some. When disc jockeys use the term ‚Garage‘ to describe the current music rage, the sensation, inspiration and emotion associated with New York’s celebrated after-hours nightspot the ‚Paradise Garage‘ immediately comes to mind. The now defunct club’s legendary D.J. Larry Levan took his ‚Fans‘ on a journey of musical freedom, if you will, that could elevate even the most stubborn of dancers to an experience only felt within the limber physical confines of ‚The Garage‘.
The influences are drawn from the vintage mid to-late ’70’s Salsoul and Philly International catalogues (and then some) of First Choice, Loleatta Holloway, MFSB and song orientated R&B performers, all of whom were favourites of Levan’s.
‚This Is Garage‘ manages to compliment the venerable days of old whilst offering a distinctive and innovative glimpse into what the future holds. Cooltempo has assembled the blossoming talents of some of today’s most exciting artists and promising producers on the garage music scene, most of them hail from New Jersey. The legacy of the ‚Paradise Garage‘ has been carried on by New Jersey’s own ‚Club Zanzibar‘ in Newark where Tony Humphries‘ ‚intense turntable action‘ offers solace for those mourning the Garage days of old. Club Zanzibar and Humphries have become the premiere vehicles for showcasing and breaking the area’s talent.
‚This is Garage‘ highlights some of New Jersey’s best classic crossover anthems. Adeva’s ‚Respect‘ was handled by Mike Cameron’s Smack Music Productions, and remixed by Danny (D-Mob) D.
In addition to other vigorous offerings from Cameron and Smack, Paul Simpson serves yet another reworking of his hit ‚Musical Freedom‘ inspired by Candi Staton’s ‚You Got The Love‘ and featuring her unique vocals.
K-y-ze take it to the ultimate max with ‚Stomp‘, a dynamic fusion of rap and a sinister garage groove. Alias with ‚Runaway‘ and ‚Baby Love‘ by Michael Watford are further examples of New Jersey’s wealth of promising talent.
Contained for good measure are last year’s U.K. dance floor staples, Julian Jonah’s ‚Jealousy And Lies‘, ‚Time Are Changing‘ by Fred Fowler, plus a new Tony Humphries edit of FB3’s ‚Faith, Hope & Charity‘.
