Die Anfänge
Kym Mazelle (geboren 1960 als Kimberley Grigsby in Gary, Indiana, USA) wollte zunächst Opern Sängerin werden.
Mitte der 80er Jahre zog sie nach Chicago und fing dort ein Studium am Mundelein College an.
Doch es kam anders – Kyms arbeitete bei DJ International und lernte Marshall Jefferson kennen.
Gemeinsam entstand ’87 der Song „Taste My Love“ und Anfang ’88 mit „I’m a Lover“ die erste Single unter Kyms Namen.
Der Anfang ihrer Karriere.
Kym wurde in Chicago sehr bald zu einer festen Größe,
zur „Queen of House music„.

Das Sublabel von EMI Records wurde von Rob Sawyer (A&R) im August 1985 in London gegründet. Die erste Release (Lola „Wax the Vain“) erschien aber erst im März 1987.

Charterfolge
Die erste Single auf Synocopate „Useless (I Don’t Need You Now)“ brachte bereits einen ersten Chart Erfolg. (UK-Charts #53, US Hot Dance Club Play #13)
Der Durchbruch kam jedoch mit der Single „Wait“, einem Duett mit Dr. Robert (Robert Howard) Sänger von der damals sehr populären Band ‚The Blow Monkeys‘ (Hit: „Digging Your Scene“).
Der Song erreichte am 11.02.89 Platz 7 der UK Charts. (direkt vor Ten City „That’s the Way Love is“)
1990 folgte mit der Single „Missing you“ von Soul II Soul ein weiterer Chart Erfolg #22 UK.
